SUMC Meditation Garden

For several years, members of the SUMC congregation dreamed of incorporating a meditation or memorial garden into the church grounds.

In the fall of 2010, with the blessing and approval of the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Council, a committee was formed to begin planning the garden.

Once a specific site was identified, three flowering pear trees were planted.  These beautiful trees, while having a small profile, provide a new, distinctive look with each of the three growing seasons.  During the fall and winter of 2010, proposals and cost estimates were received and a plan was chosen.  Construction began in late spring 2011, and the garden was dedicated in July, 2011.

The central area of the garden is a raised, round brick planter  filled with roses, grasses, flowers, and a gently flowing water feature.  Surrounding the planter are brick pavers which have been placed by families and friends to honor loved ones. Additional pavers are engraved and installed as needed.  Applications for purchasing a paver are available through the church office.

It is our sincere hope that you will stop by the garden and sit for a while to reflect, meditate, pray, or just relax.

The photos show the garden through the seasons.
